Fuel Economy and the All-New 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

We recently received an email from a customer of ours who purchased an all-new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 6.2L ECOTECH3 V8 engine with dynamic fuel management. 

Our customer has been a loyal GMC truck owner for more than two decades. Check out their email below, outlining their recent experience regarding fuel economy on a recent trip to British Columbia in their 2019 GMC Sierra 1500.

Dear Doug,

Two things are known about fuel economy   Firstly, every new vehicle sold in Canada has a Government of Canada Fuel Rating. Secondly, every driver will have something different than the government rating. Why?  Laboratory testing and real world driving conditions along with drivers’ habits vary greatly. 

So how was my fuel economy on a recent 2,500 KM road trip through Canada’s Rockies & more (Edmonton to outside of Kelowna and return)?  I was driving an all-new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali equipped with a 6.2L ECOTECH3 V8 engine with dynamic fuel management coupled to a 10 speed automatic transmission. 

Government of Canada fuel rating (litres per 100 KM)is:

13.9 Combined, 15.5 city and 11.9 highway

My best 100 KM I got 8.5L per 100 KM. Likely westbound from the top of Roger’s Pass to Revelstoke! But what I found impressive was the 11.4L per 100 KM average for the entire 2,489.6 KM round trip. This includes highway, city, slow construction zones etc. 

Your fuel economy experiences will not be the same as mine. We drive differently but overall I hope you agree that is an impressive combination of performance and fuel economy in the Sierra.

This is my favorite GMC Sierra I have purchased to date and look forward to many happy years of driving.
